Cory Comes Around, and Nutmeg Gets Greedy
Cory used to be afraid of Nutmeg. Not anymore. They now wrestle each other and surprise, surprise - Cory will groom him. Not that Nutmeg always appreciates it. He will swish his tail and put up with it for a while but if it goes on longer than he has patience for, he will complain, push Cory away and run off.
Nutmeg is such cutie pie. He loves to be stroked and cuddled and especially after basking for a bit, will come to me and meow his small hoarse meow asking to be picked up. He did this this morning as I was sitting in my chair and so I obliged, put him on my lap and stoked him. He responded by purring loudly. He purred and purred and at last with a final heave of a purr (sort of like an outboard motor sputtering to a stop), laid down his head for a snooze. He changed positions a few times, still on my lap, and adjusted himself for maximum comfort. Before long, Cory, who was snoozing on the next chair, sauntered over, settled himself on my now crowded lap, and started licking Nutmeg behind the ears. Nutmeg licked him back a few times. I was nearly overwhelmed by the aroma of fish.
Notwithstanding being awaken from his nap, Nutmeg seemed to enjoy the bath at first but Cory went on and on and pretty soon Nutmeg was squaking in protest and swishing his tail. But Cory would not be thwarted and continued to pin Nutmeg down and lick him all over his head and shoulders, chest and paws. This went on for quite a while until Cory finally padded off. By this time, Nutmeg was feeling like he really needed to chill out so he jumped off my lap to be left alone.
But not for long. He was soon back asking for food. Honestly, the little fella eats like a pig. He'll also try to steal adult cat food too although he's not quite ready for it for it gives him a runny bottom. He's gotten heavier, furrier, and his limp is less noticeable already. He runs and jumps and plays with the other cats (except Pepa who wouldn't give him the time of day either), his toys, and stuff he finds here and there, dried leaves from the garden being his favourite. Which all goes to show what a little TLC can do for a mangy little wretch.
