Nominally-Owned Animals

Last evening, in my pursuit of Cory, I entered the compound of a huge house having a huge wing being added. The Indon workers occupying the incomplete wing pointed out the way Cory went (into the neighbour's compound). The occupants of the old wing peeked out and granted me permission to pursue Cory (for which, make no mistake, I am grateful).

On my way in, I saw three (or was it four?) cats lounging on the patio. The cats were scrawny. On my way out, I encountered another cat which hissed at me. Cats hiss with their mouths open and I could see that this one did not have very many teeth. Did Cory catch his feline respiratory disease from this colony? Do the occupants of the house nominally own Cory? What do they feed their cats anyway? Table scraps and nothing more? That would explain the sorry state of their coats and health. Why do people do these things? Although I am trying very hard not to judge, I also cannot understand why some people spend gazillions on their cars and houses and can't be bothered to give their animals proper veterinary care or nutrition. Perhaps they think it is sufficient to give them table scraps and a waste of funds to vaccinate and neuter them. It all boils down to a question of priorities, I suppose. *big sigh*
