Pepa Can Walk!
Halleluia! She didn't even have to attend a healing rally, but yesterday morning, she just got up (and althought she did not have crutches to throw away), and WALKED! Ok, so maybe she just stumbled to the toilet but hey, it's a big improvement from not even being able to stand up.
Pepa's been a really good girl. Notwithstanding getting better at spitting out her meds, she has placidly accepted her incarceration in the backyard ("yard" being used loosely here, since the area aforementioned measures some 5'x4') which she used to protest vociferously and vehemently against during her more mobile days.
Last night when she rolled over, there was a moment when she suddenly hollered in pain. I repositioned her, figuring that she must have rolled onto a sensitive spot. This morning she asked to be let out of the backyard. Walking unsteadily, and occassionally slipping and falling, she came out to revisit old haunts around the apartment, going from room to room and checking out her favourite places.
She walks in a crooked, twisty way, her right hip jutting out and her spine not quite straight, light years away from her old scampery self. She can't stand up on her hind legs yet (although she tried and failed) and we wonder if she'll ever walk properly again. But we love her anyway, and we're just happy she's still around to show us how unflappable and gutsy she is.
Picture above shows Pepa doing her impression of a hermit crab the first day we put her in the backyard. She wouldn't come out from inside the box except to visit the toilet. When it came to food, she stuck out her paw and pulled the food bowl towards her and scooped the food out with her paw to eat.
