Pepper's Status

Peper underwent surgery last evening. When the vet opened her up, he found the damage more and less extensive than his initial assessment based on the x-rays. The bone fragment that he thought was twisted turned out to be one of three free-floating fragments that had to be removed because they were too small to re-attach. He re-attached the bigger fragments as best he could but warned us not to expect her to make a full recovery. Her gait may never be normal again, but we'll be glad just to have her back.

We're thankful that she didn't seem to have suffered any internal injuries and was stable throughout the surgery (which is something considering it was a pretty long one and she wasn't on a respirator or hooked up to monitors of any kind which a human patient will have. Animal surgery in Malaysia is still pretty primitive). Pepper will be x-rayed again today. It's the usual procedure following orthopaedic surgery to see how her bones look after being patched up (or something). Ginger misses her very much and so do we. We can't wait till she's home again.
