Kitty Trials and Tribulations

Still no word on Cory. The vet said that they'll call once the deed is done. Why did they retain him for so many days before performing the surgery? He'd be homesick and frightened at the unfamiliar smells and surroundings. Cats are such homebodies. Usually surgery is performed on the same day if fasting has been observed or the next day if there isn't time enough to do it after an 8-hour vet-imposed fast (for the animal, not the vet).

*big sigh*

Hope all's going well. I suspect Dr. Wong will be performing the surgery again since Dr. Tan is in Ipoh. She did a superb job on Pepa when she was spayed. We were told to confine her and restrict her movements (no jumping) for at least a week so the stitches can heal properly. This was what happened:

Day One: Went to retrieve her from the vet. Crouching in pain, she nevertheless managed to crawl into the cat carrier I brought without needing any persuasion. When we got home, I shut her in a cage and she curled up in a padded cat basket liner (the whole basket is too big to go into the cage) and slept the whole day.

Day Two: She meowed to be allowed out of cage. Then jumping up to her favourite chair, she snubbed all Ginger's invitations to play and crouched there most of the day, looking like she was in pain.

Day Three: Pepa started following me from room to room. She'd crouch on some comfortable spot (e.g. the bed) and observe me from her vantage point. Ginger's advances were still being rebuffed.

Day Four: Pepa was back to wrestling with Ginger.

She is one tough cookie. Hopefully Cory is one too. Although his surgery is considered a minor one compared to Pepa's ovario-hysterectomy, his FIV+ status makes his recovery (both from anaesthesia and the wound) more complicated. We miss him very much and can't wait for him to be home.

Stop press! The vet just called. Cory's waking up from his anaesthesia. Surgery was successfully completed on a half-dose of anaesthesia. He conked out in five minutes where other cats usually require ten. We've been advised to collect him tomorrow. PTL!
